| Fruit of Lycium barbarum L., in the family Solanaceae, is well-known in the traditional Chinese herbal medicine as a high value medicinal plant. Lycium barbarum polysaccharides(LBP)have been identified as one of the active ingredients responsible for biological activities. Polysaccharides are isolated from dried Lycium barbarum through the way of boiling water extraction. In a study, 50 animals were divided into two groups: a nondiabetic control group (n=10) and a diabetic group (n=40). Diabetes was induced by a single injection of streptozotocin (50 mg/kg BW; Sigma,USA) freshly dissolved in a 0.1mol/L citrate buffer (pH 4.5) into the intraperitoneum. The normal control rats and the untreated diabetic control rats were only injected with the citrate buffer. |
